- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) – Specialist Paediatrician (or equivalent).
- 16 bed General Paediatric Ward, the 8-12 cot Special care nursery from 32 weeks.
The Level 4 Special Care Nursery has C.P.A.P. and ventilator capabilities, undertaking short term respiratory support for newborns, or stabilisation before transfer to a Tertiary facility for ongoing management. Infants born less than 32 weeks gestation are transferred in-utero if possible, in consultation with the Obstetric team.

This is the main referral hospital for the region, now providing integrated cancer care services in Central Queensland in the newly established building boasting state of the art medical equipment.

Mandatory qualifications:
- MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Possession of qualifications and experience appropriate for registration as a Specialist in Paediatrics in Australia, i.e., Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP – Paediatrics and Child Health) or equivalent.
- Enrolment and maintenance of ongoing CME program of appropriate College, Royal Australasian College of Physicians RACP.
