This role is associated with an inner city, premier teaching hospital. The hospital is well known for its contribution to innovation and excellence in medical research and patient care.
You will be joining a comprehensive adult mental health service which is responsible for delivering a wide range of specialist inpatient, emergency, and outpatient services. Specialist inpatient services are delivered within a general adult unit providing care for voluntary acute patients between the ages of 18 to 65 requiring specialist mental health care, and a separate unit for individuals with acute and complex mental illness needs. Emergency mental health care is provided within the Emergency Department and a purpose-built short stay unit. Community mental health services are managed by a variety of teams. These teams include an assessment and treatment team, clinical treatment team, and a mobile clinical outreach team.
As the successful applicant, you will be working in a newly furbished 14-bed unit, working with voluntary patients who are considered low risk, but in need of care in a health care setting. You will be supported in this role by a minimum of two junior doctors, with the option of also having a psychiatry trainee. Along with providing a high standard of mental health treatment and care, your responsibilities will include working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide leadership, orientation, training, supervision, and education for doctors in training. This role also offers the opportunity to take on an adjunct role with various universities.
About the Region
This role will see you working in a large capital city situated on the northern banks of the Swan River in Western Australia. The area boasts all the amenities you would expect to find in a large modern city environment, and it is fully serviced by an excellent public transport system and a large international airport. Several large universities are within easy reach of the city centre, and Freemantle, with its vibrant music, arts and culture, festivals, markets, cafes and restaurant scene, is approximately 15 minutes away.
This sought-after region offers something for everyone including sunny weather, friendly locals, historical attractions, relaxed alfresco dining options, and beautiful parklands and beaches. Your time away from work could be spent hiking, cycling, indulging in water sports, bushwalking, snorkelling off the shoreline of nearby Rottnest Island, or exploring the magnificent natural wonders of the great Australian outback.
